Colombo City

Colombo is the capital city of Sri Lanka. And the country’s largest city in terms of population. It is a fascinating city located on the west coast and with a stunning harbor surrounded by white sandy beaches. A network of canals at the center of the magnificent 160-acre Beira Lake defines Colombo. While pursuing their degree, it is the perfect place for students to immerse themselves in a wealth of culture, history and entertainment opportunities.

2,000 years ago, Arab traders established themselves in Colombo, beginning the city's long history. The city has traditionally been a desirable trading port because of its significant natural harbor and fields of tropical plants and spices. Most of today's five-star hotels are located in the area around the fort, where Portuguese explorers first set foot in 1505. They quickly gained control of much of the coast. The Brookings Institution estimates that 752,993 people live in the Municipality of the Colombo Metropolitan Area, which has a population of 5.6 million. It serves as both a tourist destination and the island's financial hub. It lies near the Greater Colombo region, which also contains Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia and Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Sri Lanka's legislative capital, on the island's west coast. Since Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is located inside the urban/suburban area of Colombo, Colombo is frequently referred to as the capital. It serves as both the district capital of Colombo District and the provincial administrative capital of the Western Province. Colombo is a bustling city with a unique blend of colonial architecture and modern life.
