Sunil Perera
Uswatta Liyanage Ivor Sylvester Sunil Perera was a musician from Sri Lanka who also wrote lyrics, played the guitar, and sang. Perera was the band's leader and lead vocalist and is hailed as one of Sri Lanka's most important musicians. He acquired the moniker "Baila Chakravarti" and came to be identified with the Sri Lankan Baila genre.
On September 14, 1952, Sunil Perera was born in Moratuwa,
Sri Lanka. He was an actor best known for the 2009 film Leader and the 2007
films Sikuru Hathe and Wada Bari Tarzan Mathisabayata (2008). In Colombo, Sri
Lanka, on September 6, 2021, he passed away.
He played in the baila style of music, which originated during the 16th-century Portuguese colonization of Sri Lanka. He penned and performed songs with catchy melodies and amusing lyrics, frequently about Sri Lankan life and politics, with his band The Gypsies. Weddings and celebrations frequently feature this music. He began playing the guitar when he was 11 years old. [10] His father had initially anticipated that he would continue his education and eventually become a licensed doctor. Due to his subpar performance in the GCE O/L exams, he was unable to continue with his higher studies. Sunil's father set up a private GCE O/L exam for him, but he was once again unable to achieve the results he needed to continue his education. He had two daughters, Rehana and Manisha, as well as two boys, Sajith and Gayan. Sajitha, the eldest son, is married to Dalreen Suby, a well-known singer. Gayan, his younger son, is a singer and the founder of the group "Daddy." His nephew Lanthra Perera, who founded the band "Doctor," is also a musician.
Colombo, Sri Lanka In the end, it seemed only fitting that
Sunil Perera, whose peculiar Latin-infused compositions had amused generations
of Sri Lankans on the radio and on the dance floor, would go out singing.
